Neelathamara
After watching the Lal Jose's last few movies I had actually started looking forward for his movies - just like the way with Sathyan Anthikkad & Kamal's. So his "Neelathamara" was obviously present in my wishlist and the curiousity grew up when I learnt it was actually a remake of old MT Vasudevan Nair's script or the same name, released in 1974, launching the illustrious career of Ambika. But I got a chance to see it last weekend only and the expectations were half fulfilled, why it was so I'll discuss at the later part of this post. Lal Jose's movie was visually stunning, and the scenes moved almost with a lyrical quality but the question was whether the story that worked in 1974 would have been contemporary after 34 years.

Sivakudumbam
Hai Guys... It had been a long time I had been active on the blogging side. It is not that I had run out of ideas but all my energies were channelised towards completing the Shivakudumbam painting I had started 3 months back. What initially started as one of the hobbies took over the almost all the free time. Meanwhile I did watch some good movies like - "Angaadi Theru" (heart touching story), "Kalavaani" (Cute romantic comedy) & Neelathamara (mal.), not so bad "Paiyya" and some trashes like Kites (Hindi), Phoonk (Hindi) etc but I didn't have the time / inclination to write them because of this Shivakudumbam. Atlast when I finished the same in the odd hours of yesterday there was a sigh of relief and at the same time an urge to start the next painting. I had even identified what I want to do next, but I don't want to take it up now.

2 States of my marriage
2SOMM
What happens when your the film rights of your earlier books were lapped up instantly? You concieve your subsequent novels as movies itself. That's what has happened with Chetan Bhagat. Since his ONACC & Five Point Someone had been adapted as movies and with '3MOML' being converted into screenplay, Chetan's next novel had become "Bollywood" ready. Seems like Chetan will incorporate romantic songs into his next novel making it "screen" ready. The love story of a Punjabi boy & Tamil girl is so cliched and predictable through out. We, Tamilians have been subjected to the headache of viewing the same story thrice around the same time in "Poovellam Kaettuppaar", "Jodi" and "Minsara Kanna". Unfortunately this "2SOMM" will make the fourth version, so similiar is the incidents and screenplay. In the Chetan Bhagat's books there used to be an element of sarcastic humour but here it steps into racist arrogance at times. Example - When Krish gets down at Chennai Airport he finds everybody dark and pot bellied. And Chetan Bhagat fills with his cliched premarital sex episodes (so many sex scenes) and blackmailing the boss. Don't know when CB will come out of these repetitive stuffs. However the saving grace is his simple vocab, fluid writing style that never never you off at any point. Supposedly based on CB's own love story, I didn't like / enjoy what I read in the 260 pages but it might appeal some people. - 2146

Hai Guys... You might have noticed that the downloads section is not available now. Recently I got a mail from Crazy Mohan's agent asking to remove the links of the dramas and I obliged to the same. Since I am too busy at work right now I am yet to sit on re-organising the downloads section but I won't be linking any media files anymore. I neither have the inclination not time for the same. For those who are disappointed, I have collected the links from various forums, websites like Mohankumars, OruWebsite, Cooltoad and some Srilankan websites so I presume that those links will be there. I don't have any control over the files uploaded by anybody else in eSnips, Rapidlibrary, 4shared and any similiar storage websites. Search for yourself for free downloads at your own risk. My apologies to everybody concerned - 6799 reads!!!

Male Chavinist Pig
Male Chavinist Pig
It is a general notion that Indian male are MCPs (Male Chauvanist Pigs) even though henpecked. Bra burning feminists have a field day in claiming their righteous share from men. But as a normal & trying to be progressive husband, I feel that Indian women feel secure and comfortable in being "supressed" by their spouses. They can't handle their husband's respect for their space instead feel assured that they are being "noticed or considered" when they are restricted or ordered upon. Indian women don't know to gracefully accept the respect given to them, instead get a high in "claiming" them. Like most of the marriages I had seen around, at the age of 60's, my parents' marriage is a civil facade which is maintained for the sake of the society. May be my father was wrongly "taught" to keep the wife "under control" which didn't go well with my "assertive & really progressive" mother which lead to the state of not even acknowledging other's presence at the ripe age. Taking this as a lesson I tried to give my wife her breathing space, ample opportunities to be herself without hindering her personality but at the end of the day I realised that women like "ruling" & being "ruled", something like "Intermittent Reinforcement". That's why girls always fall for rapists and bad guys rather than a "perfect husband material". May be I too have to become a MCP to have a "normal Indian marriage" life. - 3433 reads!!!

Raavanan
மணிரத்னத்தின் படங்கள் வெறும் படங்கள் அல்ல.... அவை ஒரு event by itself.

The 3 mistakes of my life
T3MOML
This was the first Chetan Bhagat's book I had bought but the last one to be read :-). As usual CB targets at the Indian youth and the issues they stumble upon while building a career. Set in the "business land" Gujarat, 3MOL takes a look at the influence of religion, cricket and Politics in the common Indian's life. Ahemadabad is the best choice for the story because of its political & geographical turmoil, the state underwent in quick succession. The book opens and travels through Govind Patel's perspective. The friendship between Govind, Ishaan and Omi is explained well even though Omi's character is not etched fully. Vidya's character is mere a distraction succumbing to the "Bollywood forumula". May be CB's recent acquaintace with Bollywood & prospects of turning this into a movie had a role for creating Vidya's character. The character of 12 year old Ali, even though helps in jingoistic perspective, plays a crucial role towards the end. The "mistakes" which Govind confesses to have made are so frivolous that we don't even notice them when we read the book. But as the whole product, it works. This book seems to have sealed a "template" for CB's novels so that it gives a sense of 'deja-vu' many places - routine pre-marital sex episode, a "twist" telephone call, friendship among the protagonists & etc. Hope CB had broken away from this mould in his "The 2 States of my marriage", which I am yet to read. Don't be surprised if you hear any Bollywood movie is made with this '3MOML' novel & Sharman Joshi as one of the leads :-) - 5187 reads!!!
